The original Parish Registers for most of the Church of Ireland parishes are held at The Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. These only represent those parish registers which survived the Four Courts fire in Dublin during the 1922 Civil War because they were still being held locally at the time.

There is also a list of all the Parish Registers of Ireland in the book 'A Table of Church of Ireland Parochial Records and Copies' published by The National Archives and the Irish Family History Society in 1994. This book includes a list of all the original pre-1922 fire Parish Registers and indicates which were burnt in fire at the Four Courts Complex in Dublin in April 1922 and which survived, and where the survivors are located.

The Parish Register Collections: The following is extracted from an article that appeared in The Irish Genealogist: 'The Parish Register and Family History Collections of the Late Michael Leader' by Mary Casteleyn.
This is a list of parish registers which were transcribed at some time between the 1950s and the 1990s... The copies were made from either the original parish registers or from transcripts held by the then Public Record Office in Dublin, now National Archives... Additional information may have been gleaned from other sources, such as marriage licence bonds, wills or deeds. Much of the early work was done by Michael Leader in partnership with Rosemary ffolliott, who typed most of it, and who also transcribed many registers. Apart from those transcriptions done by her, she also transcribed the Grove White Extracts and the PRO materials.

9. Other Protestant Churches

Historically, each parish in Ireland kept its own records. Because the Church of Ireland was the state or established church, these parish records were considered state records. In 1876 a law was passed requiring that Church of Ireland parish registers be sent to the Public Record Office (now the National Archives) in Dublin for safekeeping. This law was amended in 1878 to allow parishes with good storage facilities to retain their records, so not all parish records were sent to Dublin. Further, some ministers made copies of their records before sending the originals to Dublin. Thus, many Church of Ireland records remain, even though the records sent to Dublin were destroyed in 1922 when the Public Record Office burned.

In 1961 the Public Records Office asked churches to deposit the records in Dublin to enable them to be copied. Margaret Griffith and Assistant Keeper manually copied the relevant records, an immense task. The records are now available in the National Archives and contain many for rural Co. Cork parishes as well as St. Annes Shandon, St Nicholas and Christ Church in Cork City.
