From Burkes "A Genealogical and Heraldic Dictionary of the Landed Gentry of Great Britian 1862:
"Thomas Cooke was a very wealthy merchant in the City of Cork. It appears by his will, that exclusive of his landed possessions, he had extensive capital in trade, including many ships at sea, which he directed by his will to be sold. He was of the Society of Quakers, and his wife Joan Harwood, whom he married 29 Sept 1661, was an English lady and granter of the Threadneedle Street charity. By his will, he directed that he should be interred in the Quakers' burial ground at Cork. He died about 1706. Dungalane, on which was an old castle, was subsequently denominated Castle Cooke. He was adjudged a traitor for adhering to the cause of William III, and was attainted as such by the parliament held under King James II, at Dublin, 7 May 1689. He bequeathed his estates to his only son:
Peter Cooke Esq. of Castle Cooke, co Cork, who married Elizabeth Mitchell and had two sons and one dau viz.:
(1) Thomas, his heir who married Dorothea Addis and had three daughters: Elizabeth (d.s.p.), Martha who married 22 Nov 1750, her cousin Rev. William Collis, and Anne.
(2) Zachary who succeeded his brother but died unmarried in 1707 and is buried in St Peter's church. He was succeeded by his niece, Martha Cooke Collis.
(3) Elizabeth who married John Collis, Esq of Cork and had issue William who married his cousin Martha, heiress of Castle Cooke."
